Come On In : The Design House, the first brick-and-mortar location from Heuer Design Collective

“I want people to feel like they’re getting a warm hug when they walk in,” says Dawn Heuer, founder and CEO of Heuer Design Collective (thedesignhousehdc.com), of the vibe her team is aspiring for in their first brick-and-mortar location, The Design House, set to open in November. The 4,000-square-foot space is part of a new community development in Inman Park, taking over Highland Bakery’s old stomping grounds. Being a shopkeeper has long been a dream of Heuer, who’s been creating spaces designed for relaxation and comfort in Atlanta since 2018. “I wanted a showroom-store concept that was a warm, happy, and approachable space for people to come into,” says Heuer. “Design can be so intimidating, and even a little stuffy and awkward, and I was looking for a space that would be the opposite of that.”

Heuer saw the space and was immediately sold. The potential to be part of a community-focused area apartments, restaurants and other retail spots will fill the rest of the development—in a creative and bustling neighborhood like Inman Park was just the setting she had in mind. To complement the warm and inviting space, Heuer and her team offer a curated collection of home goods that inspire and captivate. With help from senior design director Taylor Maher, Heuer is sourcing items from around the country and world that you won’t find around every corner.

“That’s going to be part of the appeal of buying something on the floor,” shares Maher. “It’s going to be almost like a one-of-a-kind experience with new pieces each time you visit.
